Instructions

Step by step

1
Preparation

Prepare the wall and the room

Before you pick up a brush, take a moment to set things up properly. Move furniture out of the room or cover it with protective sheeting. Use masking tape and dust sheets to protect the floor and skirting boards, decorative paint is thick and can drip.

Make sure the wall is clean, dry and free from grease or stains. Fill any cracks or holes with filler and let it dry completely before you continue.

Tip: If the wall is very absorbent (e.g. freshly plastered), apply a Primacol primer first. This helps the paint go on evenly and means you'll use less of it overall.

2
Base coat

Apply Primacol Decobase

Before reaching for the Silver Sand, you need to prepare the surface with a decorative base coat. Primacol Decobase is a specially formulated primer that ensures the decorative paint adheres perfectly.

Apply Decobase using a roller or a wide brush, spreading it evenly across the entire surface. The layer should be thin and uniform — take your time to cover every part of the wall properly.

Important: After applying Decobase, wait at least 2–4 hours for it to dry completely. Only a fully dry base coat will allow the Silver Sand to bond and perform correctly.

Apply the Silver Sand

Dip a wide decorating brush or roller into the paint and start applying the first coat over the dried Decobase. Use cross-hatching strokes, first horizontally, then vertically to cover the surface evenly and begin building up the texture.

After a few cross movements, gently brush over the surface to spread the particles contained in the paint.

Don't aim for a perfectly smooth finish, a little irregularity is exactly the natural, organic look that makes Silver Sand so beautiful!

A few simple steps, a little patience, and you've got a wall that turns heads every time someone walks into the room. No experience needed, no fancy tools required — just a bit of enthusiasm and Primacol doing the hard work for you. 💪
